Is it illegal to trade college text books?
I was interested in forming a program at my college, for text book trading. Wanted to know if there is any illegalities to it?Is it illegal to trade college text books?
The school might not go for it (they make money from selling you books). There is nothing illegal against it.
Not that I'm aware of - we traded textbooks all the time, I mean, you're essentially borrowing it from a person (for a semester) and you could give it back after you're done. I think this is a good idea - lots of people just want to get rid of the books when they're done with them and trading for another book would have been great. You'll need somewhere to house the books and if you wanted to really get rid of them (i.e. if no one wanted the book after a certain period of time) you'd have to decide if you give it back to the person so they can exchange it for some money (at the college bookstore, maybe?) or if you donate proceeds to charity or a college organization... As long as you're trading books you own, and not photocopied pages or electronic duplicates, it's fine. The campus I work on even has free classified ads for trading textbooks.

There are some additional grants that are offered at you school. For instance, pell grants. Also scholarship for participating in activities such as the choir, special activities. Don't automatically buy from the bookstore. Some of the prices are fair others are overpriced, so shop around. I bought a few from the bookstore because it was cheaper, but rented most of them.

Why are College school books so expensive?
It seems like the books are so overpriced. Are they taking advantage of the students? Are the teachers in on it too since they are the ones that pick the texbooks? It seeems like there is a new edition every semester. Also colleges now have books custom made for them so you cannot buy used ones on the internet. If you're selling them on marketplace sites like amazon or half.com, I usually put my books for 50 cents cheaper than the lowest price already listed. This helps me sell my book quicker. You can definitely ask for more money if it's new.
If you're selling the books in person, just check out amazon or half.com and see how much people are selling the books online for to help give you at least a starting point for what to ask for.
You can also ask for a quote from a website that sells used textbooks online so you'll know right away how much money you'll get and the process won't take as long as selling them on your own.
