Active duty Navy E-5. Is there any benefit that pays for college books?

I'm taking a college class, and tuition assistance is paying for it. But the freaking text book is 170 dollars new!

Are there any grants or ways I can get that book paid for by the Navy? It's still $130 used and that's pretty steep for my wallet....

I know if I was out and using the GI bill I would get the book stipend, but is there nothing while active?Active duty Navy E-5. Is there any benefit that pays for college books?
no. welcome to the world of overpriced college text books. see if the college has a lending library or find someone who took the class before. usually they sell for a lot cheaper or will let you rent it.Active duty Navy E-5. Is there any benefit that pays for college books?
Maybe financial assistance through the school, but you have to look at it this way. They are paying for school, so the price of books is a small fee, plus you can sell them on ebay and get the same amount back or more. I've never had any trouble with that.

Edit: Also try BUYING them on Ebay, you can get them for a fraction of the price new, it's very rare that I haven't found a book I needed.Active duty Navy E-5. Is there any benefit that pays for college books?
1. You can try the base education center, sometimes they have books you can get on loan.

2. remember, you can sell the book back after the class.

3. Have you tried the school library, sometimes they will have a copy or two of the books you can check out.
