I'm a college freshman, looking for a good read. I like to be able to relate to the themes of the book, not just the situation. I can read fantasy if I can relate to the characters. If it is just out there and makes sense only to the imagination and not to my emotional side, then I won't like it.

Find him in the stacks and stand there, flipping through, until you find the one with the most palatable plot. Read it, then, for the themes, and be young and thoughtful and cool and enjoy.
Next, later ,try Kerouac's On the Road. :)
