What are some good challenging high school/college level books?

Im going into eighth grade in the fall and i want to read some REALLY good books over the summer. I have trouble finding good books in my lexile though. My lexile is 1352-1587. Im into realistic fiction books and romance really interests me too.

THANKS FOR ANSWERING!What are some good challenging high school/college level books?
Well I read the book-- the red and black-- (At least that's what I remember it to be called). its a bit of a romance its based back in the old days of big dresses, but the wording is quite long and difficult. The only reason I read it though was because it was on the list of banned books by our school district (even a harry potter book was on the band list can you believe it?), anyways I think that book would fit the description you gave.

Pride and Prejudice, The Scarlet Letter, The Odyssey, Count of Monte Cristo novels

those are books that have with stood the test of time and are very educational and are only for dedicated readers

some good authors are Joyce, Pynchon, Beckett, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Chekov, Mishima, Lu Xun, and AbeWhat are some good challenging high school/college level books?

Most of the titles by Jodi Picoult are realistic fiction with a little bit of romance. You should read My Sister's Keeper, Keeping Faith, Plain Truth, Salem Falls, The Tenth Circle, or Vanishing Acts.

Michael Crichton is also a great author, he does a great job combining science and action. He doesn't usually focus too much on romance, Timeline has a love story thrown in but it takes a backseat to everything else that happens. You should also check out Jurassic Park or Congo.
War and Peace by L . Tolstoy ( a story of 4 families )

The Master and Margarita by M. Bulgakov ( a story about love and belief)

Lolita by Nabokov ( abuse )

The Storm of the Century by S . King ( evil and human nature )

Called Out of Darkness by Anne Rice ( an autobiography )
