Can I get a Stafford student loan for my college books?

I need $900 for books and supplies by June 27th. Can I go to any bank and apply for a Stafford loan? Will I need a parent or adult to co-sign if I am 17? (I'm turning 18 two days after my classes start, but I will still be 17 when I'm actually applying for the loan). Can I get a Stafford student loan for my college books?
It doesn't work like that. You cannot get a Stafford loan from the bank - it comes from the federal government (sort of) and you have to apply for it through your school. You can use the money you borrow for your books without a problem. If you want a Stafford loan talk to your school's financial aid office as quickly as possible. You will need to fill out the FAFSA if you haven't already.

If you want a standard commercial educational loan you can usually apply for those online. You may be able to get one through your bank as well. You will probably need a cosigner.
