I am going to a community college this fall, and I have heard that one should wait until after the first class to buy all the books. Would anyone else recommend this?Is it better to wait until after your first class to buy books for college?
I recommend it, although I admit that I always bought books before class started to avoid the bookstore rush the first few days of class. It only came back to bite me once (last minute professor change.)
Since this is your first semester, you might try emailing your new professors to verify which books you'll need (come up with some line about why you need to know before classes start.)
I really miss the days of having the option to wait--in law school, we have assignments in all courses that're due the first day of class!
Yes. Last semester I bought books before class began, and I ended up not using them all year.Is it better to wait until after your first class to buy books for college?
Sometimes it is better because your Professor may want you to have other books for his/her class. The draw back is if you wait until after class begins, all the used books may be gone by then. Used books are usually half the cost of new books...
Yes, because some professors will not be using the book thats in the book store. Also, som professors may give you the option of getting a prior edition of the book that may be cheaper. I would say wait, unless you just have to start studying right now.Is it better to wait until after your first class to buy books for college?
Depending on your situation, you might be able to have the best of both worlds. Buy your books first, so you can get the used copies before they run out. Then talk to the prof about the book selection. You might need to exhange or return a book, but most bookstores let you return for full value within the first two weeks of school.
And one semester I had a prof who assigned a HUGE reading assignment the first day of class... and the bookstore was out of the book. The prof didn't care. Do the workload or drop his course was his line of thinking.
Good luck to you. Study hard.
Id say yes! I bought books for my daughter as a surprise for her first semester of college, and was EXTREMELY disappointed at the fact that she used only one. I had bought a book for $90 and when she went to return it they wanted $10 for it. I will never do that again. Even tho the used books might be sold out, theres always amazon.com. Some classes she had didnt even use the books and theres always friends you can share with if the books really expensive (one of hers was $175) or the college library. I wish you the best of luck! :)
Yes, because although the bookstore suggests what books you might need for the class, the teacher will most likely hand out a syllabus on the first day that will list every book you will need. Just make sure that you buy the books in a timely manner
