Should I wait until the first week of school or is there a way to check online which books I need? When is the appropriate time to buy my college books?
some schools allow you to check online through the college website. others you can find out on the bookstore website, and you can always find out in the school bookstore.
Don't wait for the first week. Waiting will only cost you money, and put a rush on things.
I recommend buying/renting them as soon as possible, I rented mine a month in advance, and im all ready for school to start on monday.
Don't automatically buy from the bookstore. Some of the prices are fair others are overpriced, so shop around. I bought a few from the bookstore because it was cheaper, but rented most of them.
You should look at amazon or a place called half.com if you want to buy
If you want to rent, check out: http://www.campusbookrentals.com/ i got mine here, and they are pretty godd, plus it is free shipping both ways
but I have also heard good things about Chegg.com
make sure to shop around, and buy soon

if you log on to the bookstore of your university you should be able to find them by searching for your class. It really depends whether you should wait or not. If you know its a class that u r gonna need the book for (such as chemistry, physics, calculus or something like that) then you should go ahead and buy it now through any online store, it will be a little cheaper than when school starts. however if its any other class, such as a business, phsychology, english, etc, you should wait until school starts because professors will often tell you not to buy the book that the class is supposed to have 'cause u r not gonna use it.

Usually the bookstore will have the books ordered by class in the store, so you find your class and get the books listed for that class. I would get them before the first class so you have them. Some teachers also start going through the book during the first class, so it is good to have them with you then.
Check out which bookstore your school has and look up their website. They might have a list of schools on their website for schools they work with and the required books for each class.
However, books at the college bookstore will cost you a small fortune. You're much better off just using it as a resource for finding out which books you need.
--You can buy them online, which is almost always cheaper than getting them from your college bookstore. You can also sell them back at the end of the semester, either online or at your bookstore, which helps put a little more cash in your pocket. --You can also rent books, which some people like. The disadvantage is you really need to be careful about protecting them, not losing them, and sending them in on time or it can cost you a lot more than buying them new. If you think you'd like to rent them, I'd recommend checking out this article: http://makecollegereality.com/succeed/ge鈥?/a>
--You can also get digital textbooks. You will either download the book onto your computer or get an online subscription. Either way you will only be able to use it for one semester - you can't keep the book forever.
