Put them up now. Most students will buy their August books in early August, if not before.
They will be checking out what books are available. If you wait too long, they will find other sellers.
Be sure to list not only book title, and class the book was used for (level of course, undergraduate, or graduate), and what edition the book is.
Normally shipping will take 3-5 days, so books will be purchased by middle of August, for classes that begin 3rd week of August.
Personally, I'd list them on local college bulletin boards in student union, or cafeteria area. You can get an official stamp, and permission to post your listing there, without too much trouble.
Then, you'll get a better price, because you won't have to pay for shipping, or insurance on your sale to an e-Bay customer. The local student purchasing your books, can drop by a local fast food shop, or coffee house to meet you and pay for the books.
Get hot, soon it will be too late.
