Do you think its right for college books to cost more than tuition?

My tuition and fees cost 830 dollars this semester.

My books come out to 875 dollars.

I know you can get used ones, however, if the dang school would stop switching the books every semester I could find the used ones!

I just think its ludicrous a book would cost more.Do you think its right for college books to cost more than tuition?
That is ridiculous but most books costs around or over $100 a piece. If your tuition is low, then the cost of the books are still going to stay the same. I totally understand the "switching books" every semester thing. I hate it when I buy a brand new book for $120 and then can't sell it back because they aren't using that one anymore. WTF?! I always check to make sure I'm going to use the book before I even buy them. Sometimes, I'll spend all that money and not use the book!!!
College text books are really a modern day scam. They change editions simply to steal more money from students. One thing you can do is buy the book, scan or copy all the pages, then return it within the 100% refund period. You now have a copy of your textbook and all your money back.

With books you are paying the author, the publisher, the printing office and the printing fees. The cost to produce a book is more than people seem to think. Professors change books so that they can be using the most current and best information to teach. You can rent books for a very small cost or you can buy them very cheaply on Amazon. Your tuition is really cheap, don;t blame that on the cost of books.Again, there are loads of places that you can rent books from, they save you loads of money.
I never thought that was possible. Where I go tuition is 31,400 and compared to that, 875 for books might not appear as bad as it is in your case. Nevertheless, I still think the prices are outrageous. You should never pay a full price for a textbook that you are going to use for only a semester or a year . Go to amazon.com, ebay, half.com and you will see a great amount of good deals on used books. I think you can bring that 875 dollars to around 500 or 600 if you do that. Some of the books there are in abundance and thats why usually the prices go down. Sometimes, you can buy 100-150 dollar books for 20-30-40 etc.Do you think its right for college books to cost more than tuition?
It depends where your going like I had this old book from Harvard, that a now, ex friend gave me, I looked for it's original cost online since it was from the late 1960's it was valued $500 to $2,000 online since it was something was originally used at Princeton, Harvard, and Brown back then. I know what you mean my books at local community college, cost just as much, but the text book companies need to pay people and so do the colleges, consider yoursleg lucky, you can go to a University or school like that and try your best and plan things out, and besides, you can always sell the ones you don't want.
No, I don't. Have you tried to get any used textbooks? They are cost effective. I do agree that switching of textbooks is an issue too. I feel your pain. I just completed my degree and my last book of 536 pages was $110 and I probably will not use it or refer to it again. This August I am taking my textbooks to a used textbook store to see how much I can get for the books. Any money from a used textbook is worth it.

Blessings
that is not right!

you need to take some action! maybe you could gather some friends and make a protest or write a letter to the headmaster? something ! that is way too much for books

however....

you can go on websites like ebay or amazon and buy used copies of the books you will need the most likely will have them

hoped i helped=)
They pay the authors to these textbooks hundreds of thousands of dollars to write the books. That's why they are so expensive. You must be going to a Community College, if you begin going to a University, your tuition will far exceed your textbooks.
what kind of school do you go to? it shouldnt be like that...i know, our books were expensive too but not as expensive as our tuitions...thats just ****** up! couldnt you just photocopy the pages of the book from some of your classmates...i think that would save a lot of money, dont you think?....unless your school doesnt allow that
Yeah I took two classes last semester during high school and I got free tuition but my Books were over 200 dollars and one of them wasn't even a book it was an envelope with an internet code. Try searching on ebay for the books you need.
Books are rediculous...

My tuition is 22k a year for off campus and my books usually cost on average 500$..

The best thing to do is know your classes in advanced and go to half.com and buy them there...
yeah, it sucks

but you can always sell yours when youre done with them
yeah it's ridiculous. i'm going to assume that you are ranting rather than asking a sincere question....
Holy crap

That's really stupid.
You must be going to an uber-crapppy school
im native.

school is for free for me.
just steal some
