Is renting college books a good idea?

I'm starting regular college this year (i've done online college in the past)...but, i've noticed how expensive college books are. Would renting them be something you would reccomend? Why or why not?Is renting college books a good idea?
It depends. You have to search around. Sometimes you can find a used book in good condition that's cheaper than renting. Amazon.com is a good website for that.
I would recommend renting books. They're cheaper than buying new books, and are usually cheaper than buying used books. Stores pay hardly any money to buy the books back from you at the end of the year, and if a new addition of your book is being released at any time within the next year, they won't buy it at all. Renting is the way to go.Is renting college books a good idea?
I've never rented my books and probably never will. Books are expensive but you can normally find them cheap on sites like half.com, Ebay, or Amazon. I always buy my books from Amazon on an Amazon credit card which I use just for college books. They have a program called "book buy back" where at the end of the semester they will buy your books back and give you an Amazon gift card in exchange. If you use Amazon a lot then its a really good deal.

I wouldn't like renting books simply because you can't write in them (which I always do), you can't keep them if you find that they are useful for your major, and you have to have them back in by a certain date and sometimes that date is before your semester ends.
It depends on the book really. If it's books for your major, it would probably be best to buy them and keep them so your able to refer to them. But if it's like a freshman history class or something where you won't really need the book, then yes, it would be good to rent and save some $$$.Is renting college books a good idea?
No, it's still a waste of money. Go on Amazon or half.com, buy them used, then at the start of the next term, resell them on Amazon or half.com (try to keep the boxes they came in so you don't have to buy new boxes to ship them in). You get the option to keep them, and if you do resell them and you kept them in good condition, you can usually get most of you money back.
