I would visit your local student center. There's usually a board where students post for sale or wanted items. This is where I find the cheapest books... and they're usually negotiable.
My second option is to look online. I have been successful with amazon.com and half.com.

you will get an extra 5% off and it saves tons of money.

1. Try find out what books you need at least a week or two before classes start.
2. After you register for class email the professor and ask which books will you need for the semester.
Checkout Cbstores.blogspot.com it has a list of good cheap books sites

Where can I buy or rent cheap college books?Have you checked with your college's bookstore? Idk about yours but my college sells used books for cheaper that the new price and buys them back if they're in good condition.
ANd of course, amazon.com/ebay.com/craigslist.com are always reliable for that kind of stuff.
