How much to save for kids college tuition/books/housing?

I'm wondering how much I should save to put my kid through a 4-year university. I want it to cover the full tuition, books, and housing. A college along the lines of USF (University of South Florida). Anyone with experience? Best way to save? How much to save for kids college tuition/books/housing?
I'm a USF alumni, and I strongly suggest that all college kids go to community college/JC for their first two years. It is a considerable cost savings in tuition, they can stay at home rather than pay for housing, and they can hold a part-time job. The first two years of college are basically the same whether at a university or a community college, so why not save the money. It will come in handy paying for books (which are absurdly expensive). It also gives them a chance to transition from the high school environment to the university environment.

By the way, you didn't say when your kid would be attending college. If you are looking a long way off, you need to factor in inflation. How much to save for kids college tuition/books/housing?
$ 36547.32.....the exact amount i summed up from all the papers. I sent my son to that college, the bast way is to look to save from the little things like things that wont make a difference in your life and you can live off, it might even be 12 cents, but after years trust me it will grow alot, try it out for 1 yearHow much to save for kids college tuition/books/housing?
Well let me inform you that the textbooks you'll need to get your child for college will be extremely expensive. Which is why I'd suggest to use http://www.bigwords.com. Because unlike most college bookstores they don't incorporate price comparison. Bigwords.com searches all the online textbook retailers and rental sites then compares all the lowest prices to find you the best deal. So if there's one thing I could help you out with when it comes to saving money, then its going to bigwords.com rent or buy your books. Hope this helps!
