half.com Not only did I buy my books there, but I sold them back to the campus book store for more than I paid in the first place. Get your schedule, go to the bookstore to get the ISBN number, then check it out on half.com Be careful though, I usually wrote a brief description of the photo on the cover so I got the right edition. I saved hundreds every semester. Good luck!
Every year I buy my textbooks as soon as I know my schedule for school. Google cheap-collge-student, they have great articles on whre to buys cheap books.

You can try buying them used online:

try half.com .
ebay
Try amazon or ebay. I know of some people that get thier college books online.
I tried all of the things that others have mentioned. It depends on what books you need; sometimes the shipping will mitigate the savings you'd have on buying the used books at your campus store. In that case, I always paw through the books at the campus bookstore so I can find one that somebody bought but didn't highlight or write in.
I also have posted things on MySpace. They have an area for buying/selling things.
You could also put up old-fashioned posters. I've had luck both buying and selling using posters and word-of-mouth.
try ebay, or amazon. You can extremely good prices at these two.
EBAY, i always buy my books there and I also sell them half off after using them there too. Set up a FREE Ebay account. www.ebay.com .
www.amazon.com
many colleges run book cooperatives where students sell their used books. also, check online for used book depots (or on amazon, look for the book and see if any are available used).
