My advisor says I can go to the college book store before and get them or I can wait till I start and the professor will tell us what books we need and we can get them cheaper some where else.Should I get my books for college before I start classes?
I always wait... you can save lots of money going to half.com and getting them there. In some instances, the professor doesn't require the book.
Definitely wait until your professor tells you exactly what you'll be using for the class because I always end up with 2 or 3 books that we never used. When you try to sell them back, you'll only usually get like 50% of what you paid for them so I think waiting is the best option. Also, someone else might buy the book, drop the class, and then sell the book for less than it costs at the bookstore.Should I get my books for college before I start classes?
Fall semester's book orders are in already, so you can start searching for books if you want. Many campus bookstores have online capabilities to tell you which book you need for which class (and professor).
It's a supply and demand thing, so if you get an early start, you are more likely to get USED books, which are much cheaper. The campus bookstores will refund your books as long as you return them in the first week of semester. www.addall.com is a good place to compare prices online as well, but no online bookstores will let you return your purchase.
I never did. I usually found out the first day that I didn't even need a lot of the books and therefore I was glad I didn't go out and waste my money on them. The only plus side to getting them before class is that you can get one of the used books first. Usually there are plenty to go around though. I recommend on waiting and going after your first class.
Also, I recommend amazon.com on used books. This is only good if you order before class because you'll obviously want them your first week. But only do this if you are 100% positive you'll need the book. Email your profs.Should I get my books for college before I start classes?
I'd get them before. I'm in college now and there have been times where classmates have waited until the last minute to get the books and missed out because they were sold out or on back order.
It's a pain trying to get copies of chapters from classmates. It's better to get them early so that you are ready for class when it starts.
They are costly but it's better to be safe that sorry. Also if you know which books you'll be using, you can always try eBay or Amazon.com to see if someone is selling it cheaper. I've bought a few books that way and sometimes saved over 50% because I didn't buy it new.
well if you go early you can get used books for much cheaper, but what i like to do is go to the class first, read the syllabus and make sure the teacher is a good one. then i go buy the book, otherwise it would have been a waste of money.
I wrote a blog post about buying and selling college textbooks: http://www.tipdiva.com/2007/12/11/top-te鈥?/a>
It includes how to get the ISBN numbers and links to places where you can find textbooks online for cheap (or even free!)
It is best to wait. Professors have a habit of changing their minds. I had that happen twice...the bookstore refused to take the books back on both occasions so I was stuck with extra books.
Whatever you do, keep the receipt in case you need to return them. There is nothing worse than taking what the book stores would offer to buy them back
Yes i would wait until you professor tells you what books to get and where to get them from, seeing as you may get them cheaper!
Good luck at collage!
try to buy them online for at least the classes that have to do with your major so you know you need them--college bookstores are expensive.
