Did or do you prefer used mathematics books for college?

I'm debating whether to buy used books. My father said I'll probably want to keep them like he did his college books. They're helping with my education, and mom puts most of her check into getting me through the month. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be wiser to just buy used books. Do they really get dirty or marked on much?Did or do you prefer used mathematics books for college?
Most of my college textbooks were purchased used when used books were available for the course. I still have most of those - especially those from the coursework in my major subject. I've never regretted buying used books. Nor did I really need to refer back to them during my career, so mostly they are in my library for sentimental purpose only - as I suspect is the case for most personal libraries.

I'd recommend buying used. Significant money can be saved that way. And, if you really, really, want new books for your major courses, buy new for your major course to keep and buy used for your non-major electives and sell them back to save a little money.
I never had a problem with used books. You can usually pick and sort through them to find one to your liking. I agree with the person who mentioned that often you might find valuable notes in the margins. That is something I usually noticed. What I would say to be careful of is someone who went overboard with a highlighter. I do recall noticing a book that was all highlighted in the first five chapters, and then untouched in the rest. It looked as if the person thought highlighting virtually everything would help him/her, and then dropped the course. I found another book which wasn't so marked up.

One point though... if you keep your books like your father mentioned, they are going to get old anyway. No, they aren't dirty, lol.Did or do you prefer used mathematics books for college?
IMO: Most people who get to college are pretty serious when they get there. Therefore, although your used books might be marked up some, the markings will very likely be valuable notes taken in real-time. Nobody is going to sit around and doodle when they've just spent a small fortune to sit in that seat.
I bought all of my college books used online.

If you get them from somewhere trustworthy, like Amazon, and check the quality rating, you can get some pretty awesome deals.

I got a book that's practically brand-new for under five dollars. There were some that were cheaper than that even!

So, yes, buy used, but check the quality rating!Did or do you prefer used mathematics books for college?
Wow, I love used math books! If you buy used, you can get four or five books for the price you would pay for one new one. Think about it, if you go to the library, you're using reference books other use, or magazines, or books people take home. At a store, people have browsed through books!
I think you should buy used books. I mean if you're majoring in Math, it would be a wise idea. Also, since it would be cheaper, that would help as well. Some used books may have many markings and can be dirty, but there probably are some out there that looks like they are brand new.
used books always better bec it has marking line and some tips inside by previous user...if you feel its dirty use that uaed book in home ...
